Key to Labels

  • * Prepackaged or store-bought.
  • family favorite: We all love this dish. Desserts are pretty much all family favorites, of course.
  • made by...: Who made this dish.
  • new: First time making this recipe.
  • regular: I make this about once a month.

Dinner for 2 adults x 2 children...

...night after night. Sometimes, it's mind-boggling how much food we eat. But the fridge is empty at the end of the week, and it's time to go shopping again! Now, I like to cook, but I'm no chef. I like to try new flavors, but it's also good to return to reliable standbys and family favorites.

This is my general guideline for main courses for each week. Chicken twice a week. Each of the following once a week: fish, red meat, beans, pasta, and a "regular." Tofu, other poultry, sausage, and cheesy mains get thrown into the mix.

I try to eat produce and vegetables that are in-season in California and the northwestern part of the US. I try to buy organic or pesticide free when it's not too much more than industrially grown produce and when it's grown in the USA. I'd rather buy industrially grown American agricultural products than organic from South America. In protein, fewer hormones, fewer antibiotics, less travel, and more dignity is better.

I'm thankful for the Earth that houses my food as it grows and for the people who labor to bring it to my table.
